Psalm 84:10

Have you ever considered how very fortunate you are to participate in sport?  There are countless millions of people who would give all they have to be in your positions of privilege.

The writer of Psalm 84 felt such privilege as he wrote the following in verse 10, “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.”

This person fully realized his great privilege and position.  He made very strong comparisons to express it.

If I were to paraphrase his expressions into the language of sport, I might say, “Better is one day on the field of competition than a thousand games watching from the bleachers.  I would rather be serving water on the sideline than to watch from the best luxury box in the stadium.”

As you prepare to compete today, thank God for the high privilege of being where you are.  Rejoice in your position and compete powerfully yet humbly.  Be mindful that nearly everyone watching you would give his eye teeth to be where you are.  You are truly blessed.
